Then my sky was lit up with friends.

Quiet at first, polite voices recorded with the soft crisp crackle of a podcast microphone being accidentally handled.

Questions and answers and nothing out of the ordinary.

It was slowly I realised that ordinary became beautiful as we nurtured it.

Smiles. Messages to friends mid-class. Laughter. Talking about our dreams in this world, this interdisciplinary discipline, this industry now—it made me realise I’d found a home.

We weren’t the same. We’d evolve into our own shining colours of this iridescent art-and-tech world.

We’d try on all these different roles and find homes where it felt most natural to play. Shapeshifters and specialists, we flicker with energy like an aurora. Soft, humming, shifting, shining colours, all of us.

Shining gentle light became a blazing dazzling sky when we found an official home.

Wordsmith, transcript, anchor; I took the role before even thinking about it, before even being asked. I was scared but oh shining zenith-sunbeam of a mentor I am grateful for your enthusiasm. You are why I can claim three years of secretaryship on every scholarship application and business conversation, you are why I felt (feel) proud and connected to something bigger than my own achievement for the first time in a long time.

I slowly watched myself become the person I looked up to.

I think we all did.
